Carson City NV, September 22, 2008 — BG Radia Corporation, the world leader in innovative, planar loudspeakers, received a prestigious Excite Award from Custom Retailer magazine for its new BGX-4850 subwoofer. Custom Retailer’s Excite Awards pay tribute to the products that best exemplify the excitement and growth of the custom consumer electronics industry. The awards are carefully determined by the overall custom electronics community, including custom retailers, installers and integrators, in addition to the Custom Retailer staff. A dedicated awards ceremony was held on September 4 during the recent CEDIA Expo in Denver with BG’s Igor Levitsky and Robin Ellis accepting the Excite award.
The BGX-4850 is the first in-wall subwoofer to achieve THX Ultra2™ Certification as well as the first audio product to incorporate THX Balanced Bass-line™, a proprietary new THX technology for delivering vibration-free bass from a very compact speaker design while delivering prodigious amounts of clean bass.

The BGX-4850 Ultra2 In-Wall Subwoofer is as dramatic in appearance as it is advanced in innovation and performance. Incorporating advanced THX technology, the BGX Ultra2 promises to deliver incredible bass performance with minimal distortion — even in large home theater venues.
“From the very onset of our partnership with BG, we wanted to create an in-wall subwoofer that delivered THX Ultra2 performance in a design that is appealing to the luxury home audio buyer,” said Laurie Fincham, Chief Scientist and vice president of R&D at THX. “The THX Balanced Bass-line technology, with its speaker drivers totally self-contained within their own enclosures, allows the BGX-4850 to produce deep, natural sounding bass without shaking the walls.”
The BGX-4850 THX Certified Ultra2 Subwoofer consists of four powerful modules, each containing 12 micro-precision woofers within their own enclosures, arranged in balanced pairs. The four modules have a total radiating area equal to two 18 inch drivers, yet fit completely inside a standard 2x4-inch stud-wall. All that is visible to the listener is a tall, slim grill 26.5 inches high and just 7 inches wide (per module). Because the subwoofer modules are entirely self-contained, they do not rely on the wall cavity or a separate back-box, to deliver resonance-free, natural bass. The BGX-4850 can also be adapted for on-wall or in-room use.
“The tall, slim profile of the BGX-4850 Ultra2 Subwoofer is unobtrusive and blends harmoniously into any décor. It just disappears into the wall, yet delivers incredibly powerful, lifelike bass with virtually no distortion,” said Warren Kocmond, Chief Executive Officer of BG Radia. “By integrating THX Ultra2 performance into a revolutionary subwoofer design, BG and THX partnered to provide custom specialists with a compelling speaker solution for both high performance Home Theater and critical music listening.”
Powered by more than 2,000 watts of power, the BGX-4850 THX Certified Ultra2 Subwoofer is capable of producing lifelike playback levels with even the most demanding entertainment content. The amplification, digital signal processing (DSP) and control are all contained within 1x2u high, 19-inch rack mountable controller/amplifier unit. An LED display and remote control are included.
Considered the benchmark for Home Theater products, THX Ultra2 Certification is designed for home audio enthusiasts who demand peak performance. It offers uncompromised playback of multi-channel movies, music and games, and incorporates new features and power requirements for premium Home Theater receivers, pre-amplifiers, power amplifiers and speakers that can distribute an optimal soundstage across wide viewing areas in dedicated Home Theaters.
