May 2007: Wedderspoon Premieres at designEX 2007

Australia’s international commercial and residential design exhibition, designEX is the premier exhibition in Australia for interior architecture and design. It was testimony to the quality of BG and T+A that high-end residential audio equipment could fill such a huge space with such quality sound.

The buzz word at this year’s event? Sustainability.

We featured eight BG high-end ribbon loudspeakers – internationally awarded, patented technology with a lifetime warranty - driven by the exceptionally high quality T+A elektroakustik electronics – amplifiers and SACD player –coincidentally, truly sustainable audio equipment.

While the primary focus of both BG and T+A is producing audio and audio visual products of the highest calibre it is interesting to note that:
1. BG does not adhere to the modern philosophy of planned obsolescence and is one of a handful of companies that offers a lifetime warranty on its products. Such is their belief and confidence.

2. T+A has designed, engineered and manufactured “green” audio and video products since they began in the 1970s. Prohibiting hazardous chemicals in their production processes, in 1999, T+A partnered with the German Government to develop proprietary technology to reduce power consumption within their DVD players by 60%. In Australia, this equates to 100,000-125,000 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of taking almost 28,000 cars off the road each year.  Who would have thought that audio manufacturers had recognised the need for environmental sustainability at all, let alone 29 years ago. As they say, ‘we began been doing this at a time when nobody else cared.’

Since T+A and BG are relatively new to Australia, architects and designers could not take advantage of the sustainability benefits of superior audio visual products, until now. Finally, they have an opportunity to recognise, acknowledge and support a sustainable option available to them in what is a guaranteed component of every building or environment they design.

Although our presence was deliberately low key, visitors to designEX can already see the opportunity to feature superior audio visual equipment whilst maintaining their integrity with respect to environmental sustainability, in an area where it never seemed possible. If you missed the opportunity to discuss these solutions, don’t worry, this is only the beginning.
